Israel may take part in this year's Eurovision Song Contest despite calls to exclude it because of the war in Gaza, as Russia was seized after the invasion of Ukraine, AFP writes.

The European Broadcasting and Television Union (EBU) said it had conducted an inspection and decided that Israel could take part in the show this year.

The Eurovision Song Contest is a non-political music event and competition between public service broadcasters who are members of the EBU. This is not a competition between governments, "said EBU CEO Noel Curran.

According to him, the EBU reviewed the list of participants in the 2024 competition and agreed that the Israeli public broadcaster KAN complies with all the rules of the competition for this year and can participate, as it has for the past 50 years.
